Hooray! In 2019, all Apple Lightning cables will adopt USB-C. The familiar rectangular USB-A port will be replaced with the rounded USB-C port on one end and a Lightning connector on the other end. Finally. Yay. Rejoice now.
Hooray!
Yay, rejoice now, for the gods have blessed us with common sense and unicorns.
Starting in 2019, all Apple Lightning cables supplied with Apple products will come with USB-C to Lightning cables. This includes:
All iPhones
All iPads
All Apple-branded rechargeable products
All Apple-branded keyboards and mice

Right now, when you buy a new MacBook or MacBook Pro, your laptop comes with one choice of port: USB-C.
Right now, when you buy a new iPhone or iPad, it comes with a USB-A to Lightning cable.
This means that you can't plug your new phone in to your new laptop.
In 2019, we rejoice!
In 2019, this will change, as Apple will supply USB-C to Lightning cables with all Apple-branded rechargeable products.
Why wait util 2019? Why not do it now?
Well, in 2019, the new versions of the iMac, iMac Pro, Mac Pro, and Mac Mini will drop the USB-A port, and only have USB-C and Thunderbolt ports. This will mean that every Apple computer will move away from USB-A, so there's no longer many need for a USB-A plugged cable... unless you use Windows.
Until next time,
