In April or May 2018, HP is set to unveil a stunning new PC, ushering in a new era in consumer computing. The PC is set to have several versions at different price points for the consumer, and two high end versions for business and enterprise customers.
HP's stunning new all-in-one
Shut the front door: imagine an iMac... but for Windows.
That's the concept for HP's stunning new all-in-one PC running Windows 10 Pro. A choice of a 24" or 27" screen, a metalised enclosure, Ethernet, SD card slot, Bluetooth, headphone and audio in/out, four Thunderbolt ports, one USB-A port, and two USB-C (non-Thunderbolt) ports. Various capacity solid state drives from 256GB to 512GB to 1TB, 8GB to 16GB of RAM, provide powerhouse performance alongside the newest 8th generation Intel processors. Add in a Windows Hello camera, speakers, microphones, wireless keyboard and mouse, and a privacy shutter for the camera.
Business and enterprise versions of the PC feature upgraded 10GB Ethernet, larger capacity solid state drives, and RAM options including 32GB and 64GB.
All versions feature increasingly more powerful versions of Intel's integrated graphics, coupled with a choice of GPUs from AMD and Nvidia.
All-in-one, plus two
In a first from a major enterprise PC vendor, HP will use the power of the Thunderbolt port to offer an external graphics enclosure, making its all-in-one, a not-all-in one, but an all-in-one-plus-one. All-in-two?
The enclosure provides a space for a full-featured GPU, enabling customers to update the graphics power of their system without having to tear the monitor apart. The enclosure will require its own power supply, and communicate with the PC over Thunderbolt.
Windows 10 Pro... on steroids
The system will be one of the first, if not the very first, to feature the newest version of Windows 10 Pro, with Mixed Reality capabilities from Microsoft, and a host of new consumer and enterprise features which Microsoft is baking i to the latest Windows 10 release.
Thunderbirds are go!
Thunderbirds are go! This isn't the 1970's anymore, and we're letting go of 1990-era USB-A and embracing Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4.
By 2020, even regular USB-C (non-Thunderbolt) will be dropped from PCs, as Thunderbolt becomes the dominant standard in wired connections.
Wifi will continue to increase in range, throughput, and shared performance, rising from 802.11ac and 802.11ax, to a new and more confusing nomenclature.
Short-range wireless standards will give way to longer-range and low-power wireless standards, powering the IoT (Internet of Things) networks, for beacons, sensors, monitoring, automation, and smart home devices.
Arrive on time
HP's new powerful PCs will arrive in April/May 2018, and lead a landslide of updated modern PCs from other popular brands.
