Qualcomm and Samsung have simultaneously released the new Snapdragon 845 chip in its integrated glory, debuting in the new Samsung S9 and S9+ phones. Samsung manufactures the chip to Qualcomm's design, and will use it in various Galaxy products in prime markets.
Samsung Exynos
In Korea and various other markets, Samsung ships the Galaxy S9 and S9+ with its own Samsung Exynos chip and slight variations to other circuitry, compared to that in the USA, UK, and Australia.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 845
The successor to the wildly popular Snapdragon 835, the 845 chip is set to power flagship phones from various manufacturers, starting with Samsung, then on to other phones by various brands, all with Android.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will feature the Snapdragon 845 chip in most Western markets.
Snapdragon 845 boasts tightly integrated systems and excellent battery life, capable of powering modern smartphones and all their connectivity and camera needs.
Snapdragon 845 will also begin appearing in tablets, as Qualcomm provides its smartphone partners with a ready-to-go tablet product based on its own reference design. We'll begin to see Android tablets from makers such as Samsung, HTC, LG, Lenovo, OnePlus, and possibly even Razer and Red.
Moreover, Qualcomm has been working hand in hand (in pocket) with Microsoft, to produce a reference design for a Snapdragon-powered laptop, which we are likely to see revealed at an event co-hosted by Microsoft and Qualcomm somewhere in March, April, or early May.
Bubbling away in the background is Microsoft's Andromeda project, for a phone-sized foldable device, that unfolds into a tablet, dockable to a keyboard. This device is likely to feature a Snapdragon 845 SOC; and wont be a Surface family member.
Qualcomm and Microsoft also have a dedicated tablet on the boil in the lab.
