Microsoft and its chip partner Qualcomm are set to announce a number of new devices from manufacturers including HP, Asus, and Lenovo. The new devices will span a number of form factors, and each device will feature a Qualcomm SnapDragon ARM processor.
For the last twelve months, Microsoft and Qualcomm have been incubating a new line of computing devices, to be known as 'Always Connected PCs'. These devices will feature the SnapDragon line of processors with integrated LTE, to maintain a data connection, even away from a Wifi signal.
It is anticipated that HP will reveal a tablet, Asus will reveal a laptop, and Lenovo will reveal a 2-in-1 convertible hybrid.
Each of these will feature a SnapDragon 835 ARM processor, WIndows 10 S, and access to the WIndows Store.
Later, we expect other manufacturers to release additional devices, including Acer, Samsung, and Motorola.
Next year, a new wave of similar devices will emerge, with the release of the newer SnapDragon 845 chip.
The advantages of Always Connected PCs are:
long battery life, up to 7 days
instant-on
always connected to the internet
fully-functional PC experience in a mobile form factor.
