If you're still in love with your iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c, get ready to shed a tear, as iOS11 spells the end of the road for the beloved and aging devices.
Many of you still hold fond memories of your iPhone 5 and a smaller group of you may be physically and emotionally attached to the cute colours of your iPhone 5c. Unfortunately, iOS11 will be the end of the road, if you want to keep up with the latest operating system and apps from Apple.
Earlier in 2017, when the Beta versions of iOS 11 were made available to developers, code in iOS11 revealed the incompatibility with the 5 and 5c. This is because the 5 and 5c were manufactured with the last of Apple's 32-bit processors, while the spritely iPhone 5s used a new-generation 64-bit processor.
You'll still be able to use your iPhone 5 and 5c, and it will continue to work, and do everything it does right now, but it wont be able to upgrade to iOS11, or use apps designed for iOS11.
If you want to keep to the same size and shape as the iPhone 5, you can purchase a pre-loved iPhone 5s, or purchase a newer iPhone SE (iPhone Special Edition).
Alternatively, consider upgrading to the recently-discounted iPhone 6, 6s, or 7.
Better still, get completely up-to-date and purchase the iPhone 8, or wait another month for the iPhone X, and hang on to that for another 5, 7, 8, or 10 years.
If there's nothing wrong with your iPhone 5 or 5c, and you love it, and want to keep it, you can, you'll only miss out on upgrading to iOS11-based features and apps.
Oh, and if you're still hanging on to your multi-coloured iMac from 1998, it's probably worth a small fortune.
Until next time,
