Mixed Reality will be the topic for the next Microsoft press event to be held on October 3rd, 2017. Press invitations have been issued for the event to be held in San Francisco, boasting "an opportunity to hear where Microsoft is headed next".
Where Microsoft is headed:
Headed... as in, on your head, with Mixed Reality headsets.
The event is expected to feature announcements of updated Mixed Reality headgear from partners including HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer, and Asus, ranging in price from US$249 to US$450, depending on features. These headsets are due for release on October 17th, 2017, in the United States, and later in selected countries.
The Asus advanced Polygon headset is not due until 2018.
A preview of Microsoft's on in-development HoloLens II is not expected on stage, however the updated first-party headset is due for release in 2019.
The highlight of the event is a keynote from Alex Kipman, the inventor of the Kinect and HoloLens.
We wonder whether mixed reality will get a mixed response, or be a compelling insight into the future of computing.
Until next time,
